In 2002, the Sonico company was formed by Atkins, a leading independent multi-disciplined engineering consultancy, and Purac Limited, an established process contracting business to market the sonix™ ultrasound technology for enhanced digestion; developed by Atkins since the early 1990s.
ACG Technology Ltd. is proud to represent the sonix as a pre-treatment process for digestion; as the technology uses ultrasound to break down the cell walls (cell lysis) in thickened waste activated sludge (TWAS), sonix makes the sludge easier to digest. The key to the sonix technology is the novel design of the ultrasonics horn; the piece that that disperses the sound energy into the liquid. Shaped like a ring doughnut, this radial horn sits horizontally or vertically in the sludge pipeline, with the fluid running through and around it.
